Despite falling for a few gimmicks over the years (magic thigh reducer, anyone?), Real Simple staffers can't live (healthfully) without some good-for-you products. What are your favorite health products? Reveal your must-haves by posting a comment, below.
Posted by: Debra T| January 16, 2008 at 12:10 PM Zicam-I haven't had a miserable cold in 2 years. Jojoba Oil is great for eczema. My forehead gets very dry and I found using Beeceuticals Facial Cleaner and Body Balm helps alot. Luna Bars and Tea Cakes for a quick breakfast. psyllium capsules, gnc multi women's vitamin, vitamin c, protein powder, agave nectar My neti pot! It looks like a small teapot, and you stick the spout up one nostrel and the luke-warm saline solution pours out the other. It cleans out all of the "junk" in my head, keeps allergies and headaches at bay, and has kept me cold and flu free for the past two years. I neti twice a day, every day, and at the first sign of a headache or congestion, there's instant relief within minutes. I like that this is preventative medicine and promotes health, instead of just reacting to a problem. Flax seed oil pills, one a day at night before bed and you are regular everyday. wonderful.... Love iced coffee? Then you will be crazy about Toddy Cafe (toddycafe.com)! Buy either beans and cold brew it yourself or just get the 32oz bottle of super concentrate to keep in your fridge for making instant iced coffee. The bottle meters out an ounce, just the right amount of coffee for one cup - just add milk and ice! The cold brewing is supposed to keep it acid free and all I know is that it's the best coffee I've ever tasted. Now even Dunkin Donuts iced coffee tastes bitter to me!! Publix Club Soda is better than any mineral water and at $0.71 a bottle you can't beat the price. It often sells for 2/$0.99! It has big frisky bubbles and a clean fresh taste without having to use sweetener. Just pour it over ice add a squeeze of lime or lemon juice and it will become your favorite drink. No sugar, no artificial stuff, no calories - just great fizzy refreshing flavor! 1. Vicks Vapor Rub- rub on the soles of your feet beneath your toes- use reflexology- that area affects your lungs, it helps with winter colds, bronchitis, any breathing problems Excedrin PM, if you get one of those nights when your mind races from one subject to another, as you imagine what you will say, or should have said or will say next time, you all know what I mean, this stuff will STOP IT in it's tracks and you will be sleeping in NO TIME, actually 20 minutes or less. Zicam is the BEST thing ever for either warding off a cold or making your cold shorter once you have one. It was recommended to me by a friend over 4 years ago, and I have not suffered from a cold since then. I have converted many other people to the cold-free wonders of Zicam believers. Join us! Halls Defense Lozenges ... first sign of a cold or sore throat ... length of each has diminished greatly. I love Nivea Body Night Renewal Creme. It is the only creme that I have found that heals my chapped hands and I have tried many OTC & prescription cremes. Also, Asics Gel cross trainers are fantastic. I use them for working out as well as general, everyday walking around. They are not terribly expensive and hold up very well. After dieting and yo-yoing with my weight for almost 30 years, I lost over 60 pounds and have kept if off for almost 3 years now. I lost weight through the Weigh Down Diet. The great part is its not a diet, I can eat all the good stuff! I am free from head hunger now and know I won't gain the weight back. Weigh Down teaches how to fall out of love with the food! So I'm free now, finally to really live the rest of my life. Advil Pain Reliever 1) Time Release Vitamin C, 1000 mg from Whole Foods, 2)Rhodiola: an adaptogen herb that can be used daily for energy (unlike ginseng), 3) Jao hand gel cleanser, smells like lavender and has the 60% alcohol level necessary to be effective Also the neti pot like Kristen and Jenny---no more sinus infections! Emergen-C individual effervescent packets: contain 1000 MG Vitamin C and 32 mineral complexes and come in little packets I can pour into my water bottle for an instant boost anytime during my day. My calcium supplements. Wouldn’t go a day without them. Everything about me depends on my skeleton and I take good care of it! I am with Kristin, my NETI POT has been a lifesaver. It is amazing how the number of headaches I have had has fallen greatly. My sinuses no longer bother me like they use to. Try a NETI POT! My favorite health products are: These things keep me healthy and at my best (physically and mentally). I have realized that when I make the biggest changes, life becomes simple because I fix problems at their root. Also, I only started exercising consistantly (not really into it for three months and then off for two months) when I made it really managable. I don't go overboard with the volume, weight, time, etc. I do not think, "Ugh! I have to work out for how long? And do what?" Instead, I think, "Oh, its only a jog around the neighborhood." Or, "It's just twenty minutes with the jump rope and stretch cord." I disagree with the pick: Reach Access Flosser as a must have body product (as listed in the January 2008 issue). You have to rinse the flosser head in between flossing each tooth. If you don't you will be taking food, plaque, etc. that you removed from some teeth and re-introducing it between other teeth. Rinsing the head in between each tooth is very time consuming. I live with a constant stuffy nose either from the damp, wet winters in Oregon or from the pollen in the summer. My Neti Pot has saved me from horrible sinus problems from colds and allergies. It provides a gentle nasal cleansing action with warm water and a little bit of salt that has really done it's job for me, and now I can't imagine not having my little pot. The first place I always feel a cold coming on is a sore throat. I dash for warm water with sea salt and gargle for 2 minutes 2-3 times a day. It soothes and I think the salt kills yucky throat stuff. Anyway, it really works to nip a cold in the bud. I have an opposite experience to report with the Camelbak water bottle, which is recommended in the Jan 2008 issue. Total waste of $12. I've had mine in Houston (sea level), Colorado (mile high), in the fridge, in room temperature, in the car in winter and summer -- and the stupid thing spurts and bubbles up water just when it's sitting there. I thought surely it had to be my fault for not having the right temp of water, or not screwing the lid on correcting, or something, since everyone recommends this product. No, alas, it's useless and bizarre. |
